Groups with opposing goals are working to have separate forestry-released ballot initiatives in front of voters during the 2020 elections.
One initiative, the “Healthy Forests and Wildfire Reduction Plan” would keep regulation of forest and timber practices on all state and privately owned lands in the hands of professional foresters, scientists and the Oregon Board of Forestry. A competing initiative, the “Oregon Forest Waters Protection” act, would greatly reduce aerial spraying near rivers and streams and greatly restrict logging near bodies of water. Both initiatives still have several procedural actions to cover, including language approval and formal signature gathering.
